Roaming in Romania Day 9 Full Circle
Four weary photographers head forth on the final session of our photography tour of Romania. Three of us had opted for another session with the technicolour bee-eaters whilst Michael decided to go off stalking larks and bunting in the minibus with Zoltan. The two temporary hides was set-up once again next to the sandbank with the bee-eater colony with Hans in one and Rene and I sharing the other. I had decided for this session I would try and get some bee-eater flight photos as I have none in my library at the moment. I took a couple of portrait photos, while waiting for the light to increase, before getting down to the business of some flight images.
Our final moments of the trip with the cameras were spent near trying to photograph some Spanish sparrow around a car park area and some kind of visitors centre. However, my attention was drawn to a Crested Lark gathering insects and also a very dirty looking Stork that passed very close by on slow powerful wing beats with a beak full of nest material.
As we drove back to the main road we came across a couple of yellow wagtails and a Great Reed Warbler. The latter kept climbing songs before bursting into its loud warble. This proved to be my last photograph of the trip. I had finished the visit to Romania photographing the same species as my first photographs in the country. I had gone full circle and the trip was complete.
Overall it had been a very memorable trip. I had enjoyed it as the photographs did not always come easily and you had to work to get the images but that made it all the more rewarding. I also really liked the mobile aspect of this trip rather than being locked down in fixed hides for a week on standard perch set-ups. Eastern Europe really is a wonderful place for the bird photographer and I will definitely be returning again in the future.
So to finish off I would like to express my thanks to:
- Zoltan for working tirelessly to make sure all went smoothly and using his magic bird locating powers.
- To the boatman for his excellent boat handling skills on the Danube Delta.

Cholesterol has become a scourge for many people because the cause of many dangerous diseases like heart disease and stroke. New research suggests that Selenium Supplement can fight cholesterol. Really?
A new British study revealed that daily doses of the antioxidant Selenium Supplement can not be used to change the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL), but may actually be able to help raise levels of good cholesterol (HDL).
“The problem is that there are many studies that have examined blood cholesterol and have found a relation with selenium,” said Margaret P. Rayman, a professor of nutritional medicine at the University of Surrey in Guildford, England, as reported from Epharmapedia.
These findings come from examinations for 6 months on the effects of various doses of Selenium Supplement on cholesterol levels of healthy people in the UK.
In this study, carried out blood tests to check levels of selenium in the blood, the good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. During 6 months, some subjects were instructed to take Selenium Supplement daily, low doses of medium or high. While others were given pills that mimic the duration of selenium as control subjects.
Researchers found that Selenium Supplement levels are increased as a result of the supplement, the bad cholesterol (LDL) and total cholesterol levels also decreased. Levels of good cholesterol (HDL) increased slightly in those who were instructed to consume the highest Selenium Supplement dose. No patient experienced serious side effects as a result of selenium supplementation.
However, the safety of selenium has not been studied and the authors said the findings were not significant enough to recommend this type of mineral supplementation. The researchers also stated that these results can not always apply to Americans, because of differences in foods and dietary patterns of each country.
Rayman also reminded that in these supplements generally have fewer side effects and not to combat high cholesterol. Especially for people who already have high levels of Selenium Supplement, Selenium Supplementation is contraindicated.

I thought "RETREAT" from abstraction was good form....clearly its going nowhere as a subject and nothing I want to paint! Soooo........back to my real world!
My next canvas is rather small at 48x44. I wasnt up for anything bigger and neither was I done with the fish. One of the references still had my attention, especially its colouring and glowing reflective light. I went back in Photoshop and adjusted it a bit to fit a nocturne Im thinking about doing as a very large centerpiece for an upcoming exhibit.
My concept for this painting is ethereal and simplistic, blended smooth with only important expressive moves having texture, if any at all. In other words, very efficient with every brush stroke counting to the whole. It will require a wet-in-wet process straight throughout....Alla prima would be a perfect outcome but not likely on a 48x44. My new fast drying white will get a good workout here.

My Koi are actually very large in real life, here almost full size, taking up most of the canvas with less negative space. Essentially I wanted a sample, something I could use as a springboard on my next painting. My normal medium (Neo Megilp) works great for certain effects, but I dont always use it for backgrounds. As a result, not always dry overnight. I used Galkyd Lite to get rid of it as it turned out more useful as a drier than a general medium and it inadvertently solved that problem. When used in combination with my new fast drying white, its a match made in heaven.

- Printer dalam keadaan mati dan kabel listrik terpasang.
- Tekan dan tahan tombol STOP/RESET, kemudian tekan dan tahan tombol POWER.
- Tombol POWER masih dalam posisi ditekan, lepaskan tombol STOP/RESET, kemudian tekan tombol STOP/RESET 2 x dalam keadaan tombol power masih ditekan.
- Lepas kedua tombol ini secara bersamaan.
- Tunggu beberapa menit saat printer sedang proses, kemudian LCD Panel akan menunjukkan angka NOL.
- Abaikan saja jika komputer mendeteksi device baru.
- Printer siap direset pakai resetter tool. Masukan 3 lembar kertas sebelum reset printer.
b. Klik main, maka printer cetak 1 halaman dengan hasil seperti dibawah
c. Klik EEPROM CLEAR, kemudian klik EEPROM maka printer cetak halaman seperti dibawah

TL-WA5110G /TL-WA5210G hanya mendukung mode keamanan WEP untuk digunakan sebagai Repeater/Universal Repeater. Jadi harus dipastikan bahwa router yang terkoneksi ke internet menggunakan mode keamanan WEP

3. Selanjutnya klick Wireless -> Wireless Mode. Pilih Universal Repeater. Kemudian tekan Survey.
(jika router anda mendukung WDS, kamu bisa pilih Repeater as Wireless Mode.)
4. Cari SSID router anda pada AP List, dan kemudian klik Connect
5. Selanjutnya klik save
6. Setelah pengaturan selesai, lakukan pengaturan IP Address komputer ke default

Romania and the Last Frontier Day 4 Sleepy until Sundown
I always think of my trips overseas as a holiday but they are never really very relaxing. In fact they are a bit more like a survival course as they are always fairly punishing in terms of schedule and sleep deprivation. The early starts, combined with the time difference, and long days quickly take their toll with cumulative fatigue. I find it easier by trying to keep organised and sticking to a fairly strict regime whilst away.
On the morning of the 4th day the effects of lack of sleep were starting to take their toll. There was a subdued atmosphere on the boat that morning. Some were more subdued than others.
While we were sat there I decided to make a short video which I thought you may find of interest. The video is not about what you will see but will be hearing so make sure you have some volume on before hitting play. Now you may think this wetland paradise is an oasis of tranquility? It is far from it and what you are hearing in the video, except for the occasional camera shutter, is the constant background chorus of thousands of frogs. The volume of these amphibians increases quite considerably at night.

The morning outing was over and it was time head back to our hotel. This has been our least productive session on the trip, partly due to making a wrong choice with the conditions and also due to a general lethargy amongst the photographers that morning. Hopefully a dose of carp broth for lunch and an extended siesta would set us back on track and raring to go for our final evening boat session on the Delta.
I had a good sleep and felt much more back on the planet when we assembled on the hotel jetty around 3 p.m. I put this down more to the curative properties of the afternoon nap than the fish and vegetable soup.
The boat slipped away from the jetty and headed off downstream which meant we would be travelling to one of the large eastern lakes, and probably some pelicans which seemed to be showing a preference for those areas. I must admit I do like photographing pelicans as they always look great either stood on an accumulation of vegetation, swimming around or in flight. I was hoping we could get some more flight photographs during this session.
We encountered a solitary Dalmatian Pelican stood on the same area were we had encountered pelicans previously.
After a few photographs the bird took off and we moved across the lake to a small group of White Pelicans, which provided us with some good flight photographs. Photographing pelicans in flight is relatively straightforward as they are such large birds that they require a long run up to get airborne which allows plenty of time for the photographers to get locked on to the with the cameras.
The boat manouvered back around and we made our way slowly towards two more Dalmatian Pelicans. En-route we came across a male Ferruginous Duck in a patch of lilies, a new species for me. An attractive bird in its rusty plumage.
A bonus Purple Heron passed the boat with long slow wing beats allowing opportunity for a couple of welcome bonus photographs.
We were heading to the same destination as the previous evening and paused as we entered once more into the large lake for a loafing Pygmy Cormorant. If ever there was a bird species which reminds me of birds reptilian ancestors then this would be it.
Of course with the light becoming better by the minute the cameras turned back to both of these smaller herons until there was no glow to play with using sensible camera settings.
